Picture People is a small organisation that provides creative educational opportunities for men, women and children, affected by war, disaster or social disadvantage.

It was founded in 2004, in response to the Bam Earthquake the previous year. Teaming up with Merlin, we initially provided simple Kodak one time use cameras to the survivors of the disaster and holding an exhibition in the ruins of the Arg-e-Bam (Bam's architectural identity) the organisation decided to continue making projects with the survivors of the many disasters which happened throughout the 2000s.

After Bam, we went to post-Tsunami Sri Lanka with Merlin, and continued the project we started in Bam of the next five years. We teamed up with Support to Life there, and followed them to Kashmir where we worked on and off from 2006 to 2008. We also went to the Western Sahara, Lebanon, Mali and Senegal. In 2010 we were given a grant by the British Council to produce communication material on climate change in southeast Asia. We worked in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

The Arab Spring saw us going to Tunisia and of course to southeast Turkey to work with Support to Life once more from 2013-16 working with Syrian and Yazidi refugee youth.

Changing gears we find ourselves in the Philippines producing the second instalment of the Proverb Sessions on the island of Camiguin.

We are a registered UK Charity, no. 1125716
